ONE GUY DRINKING AT A BLOG

So, I'm going to start off by saying, Two Guys Drinking At A Bar was an experiment. Typical youtube and Itunes type shows have this one camera setup of people talking to the camera kind of as the aesthetic, but they usually aren't narrative or episodic in nature, just talking to the camera stuff.

While working at a post production house in the San Fernando Valley, I created a television series idea that I knew I didn't have the funds or resources to do a full on pilot for, so I put it aside for a bit.

But then, last year, I enlisted the help of Second City comedy veterans Kevin Farley and Paul Preston to exploit one teeny tiny portion of that tv show idea into an online series called, Two Guys Drinking At A Bar.  Truthfully, in the full series, these two guys were more apt to be like the two muppet show old men who threw out some ridicule to the main characters every now and then at their corner pub and the show moved on. They weren't meant in anyway to be main characters...

I also personally wanted to experiment to see how an extremely short internet show could have a story arc ( like [and poking fun of] LOST for instance) yet hold on to that low tech/film-school aesthetic - embracing only the simpleness of that aesthetic not the actual poor quality - and a little more clever post production TLC instead of expensive cameras, lighting equipment or budget for that matter. Most everything that a regular person could get some kind of access to was the goal. "Two Guys" became my "piece of mind" editorial playground; like super-8 films when we were kids.

For the theme song, enlisting the help of singer/songwriter Shane Tassart of Best of Seven seemed the perfect fit and he handed over not only one cool tune but the kind that's catchy and you find yourself humming it in line at the ATM or Taco Bell . (For those that need the clarification... that's a good thing)

March 2008:
Two Guys Drinking at a Bar - Featured as a top Comedy Podcast on Itunes
.

Although that was truly outstanding to call producers Paul Preston and his wife Karen Volpe to witness that crazy little Two Guys icon buried pages into the Itunes "Featured" storefront, it also made me realize both the successes and failures of the series or experimentation if you will.

Two Guys Drinking At A Bar was designed as a episodic narrative that requires (like the Office) a little patience and investment to fully appreciate its more smarter destinations and intent. Did we get that audience? Do they get it? Is this the place for it? Will people actually watch the credits? Honestly, I don't know yet. The Apple Itunes store's inner workings is kind like trying to find illegal immigrants at an INS block party. (More on this in another blog post to come... about Apple I mean... not the illegals)

So, the favor.... one simple favor. Go to Itunes (search for Two Guys Drinking At A Bar) and give us a watch. Truly, watching episode 1 through 6 will make 7 soooo much better. It builds upon itself. The subtle commentaries begin to unfold. There's something there and maybe I was wrong to think people could find it on their own without a little push... so here... a push....

Synopsis: Simple, seemingly uncomplicated comedy layered with social commentaries on media, pop culture and some seriously offbeat twists gives Two Guys Drinking At A Bar a welcome push for Internet Television that brings back memories of old school Saturday Night Live laughs.

Stars comedy veterans Kevin Farley and Paul Preston in a episodic series created by Mike J. Nichols. Featuring original music by Shane Tassart.

So, I'm asking you, please give our little show some support and hopefully subscribe on Itunes (or even YouTube)
